An Excellent Bae-cation in Mexico!

I traveled extensively before getting married; however, some of my most extravagant trips have been with my husband. When it was just me, I didn’t mind roughing it in a hostel dorm room or sharing a private room with girlfriends. Once my husband and I started traveling together, though, comfort and luxury traveled to the top of my accommodation list. Plus, a private, clean, spacious, and opulent room definitely amps up the romance factor. One of our most memorable bae-cations that we reminisce on often is our 1 year anniversary trip to Excellence Playa Mujeres in Cancun, Mexico! As the name suggests, everything was truly excellent from the room we selected to the outstanding service. This ADULTS ONLY all inclusive property was worth every penny, but we found it more affordable than some comparable properties in the Caribbean. Keep reading to find out why we could keep going back to this paradise on Earth.

The Room

I could honestly stay in the room we selected for multiple days without leaving. Yes, I mean the room without stepping foot onto other parts of the hotel. We stayed in a two-story rooftop terrace suite with pool view, and it was as amazing as it sounds. The room is 1600 square feet, fits two guests, and the pricing starts at $520/night. As this is an all inclusive, the price includes unlimited food, drinks, and alcohol, so the fact that the price is per room and not per person makes this resort extremely appealing. When you first walk in, the first floor consists of a beautiful marble bathroom, King size bed, sitting area, in room jacuzzi, and views of the ocean. As if this wasn’t enough, you walk upstairs to your own private rooftop terrace that features a plunge pool with waterfall effects, two daybeds for lounging, and even more stunning views. It’s literally a dream brought to life! Sine it’s all inclusive, you can have food and drinks brought to your suite, which is why I said I could go days without leaving the actual room.

The Resort

The resort offers a multitude of dining options; 12 options to be exact that ranges from casual to fine dining and includes Mexican, Italian, seafood, Indian, and French cuisine. Now, I have been to other all inclusive resorts and usually am not a fan of the food, but this place truly offers an outstanding dining experience. Is it on the level of Ruth’s Chris? No, but it’s way above Golden Corral, which is what I equate other all inclusive resort food to. We were satisfied with every meal and not left feeling disappointed. The resort also serves top shelf liquor, and I remember the strings being strong and delicious when I was there, not watered down like other places. The minibar also comes stocked with spirits so you can make your own drinks in the room. The beach was also amazing, as it was literally a walk from our hotel room as you pass multiple pools and hot tubs. All my husband really needs to be happy is to lounge on the beach or at the pool while someone serves him drinks lol. He definitely indulged during our time at Excellence. Lastly, we had an amazing couples massage and water treatment at their spa, which rounded out our anniversary experience.

This type of bae-cation is a treat and one that can be enjoyed during a special occasion, like we did. If you’re looking for more adventure or to stay somewhere more authentic and local, then I wouldn’t recommend spending the money here. However, if you are looking to mentally escape and pamper yourself, then you can just come to this resort and never leave until your flight home. We did pull ourselves away for two excursions while we were there. One was to visit Chichen Itza, which is one of the seven wonders of the world and worth checking out for the beautiful architecture and rich history. The other was for an adrenaline rush exploring various cenotes (natural sinkholes) and engaging in zip-lining, rappelling, and kayaking. We had a blast and did our tour with Xenotes, who I highly recommend!

How do you feel about all inclusive resorts? I wasn’t a fan until I met this one, so like they say, there are levels to it!

xoxo, Global Midwife
