One of the main questions I’m asked in my DM is “girl, where do you shop?!” I totally get it. For years, I struggled with knowing where to shop and then what to purchase for my plus size body. What’s even more frustrating is that I am severely limited when it comes to shopping for clothes in person. Last month, Terray and I decided to do a fun, date night at the mall, followed by dinner. Since I am a habitual online shopper, I was excited to finally be able to touch the fabric I was looking at and see how an outfit looked on my actual body instead of the model. Unfortunately, I was quickly reminded during this outing why I became so addicted to online shopping. I’m pretty much forced to. The only items I were able to purchase at the mall that day was a very cute bag from Aldo, and a dress for London (my fur baby) at a kiosk. I even tried a size 14 on in Banana Republic, and trust me, it was not a 14!
The old me would have probably broken down and cried. Sadly, I’m so used to feeling like an outcast at the mall that I simply brushed it off and even chuckled at myself for forgetting my reality. I am extremely thankful for stores like Torrid and Lane Bryant that continue to provide cute, trendy, and accessible plus size clothing through their brick and mortar stores. However, straight size individuals are not required to only shop at 2 places. We all love variety and for now, online shopping allows me to achieve that. Today, I’m sharing my favorite SALE looks at some of the brands I frequently buy from, as well as my thoughts on sizing and fit. The best thing about living in South Florida is that we literally have no seasons. It’s either hot or extremely hot lol. As the rest of the world transitions into cooler weather, I can rack up discounted summer looks that I can literally wear until Christmas. And let’s be real, who doesn’t love a sale?! For your convenience, all pictures provide direct links to purchase.
Eloquii is where I look for trendy, fashion forward pieces. This brand is not afraid to step outside of the box with bold prints, interesting cuts, and stylish suits. Even though I've only started shopping there this year, they have quickly won me over. For the most part, the sizing is spot on and fits comfortably. However, I am petite at 5'2, and did not have a good experience with a jumpsuit I ordered earlier this year. It hit me at the wrong place as clearly it was for a taller woman. What I do love about this brand, however, is that they offer petite lengths in certain items, such as a pair of pants I ordered that fit like a dream. All of their dresses have been true to size! For reference, I'm a size 14.
Many of you fell in love with this blue, floral print dress when I posted it. I love the asymmetrical neckline and split that shows just the right amount of sass. It also has ruched detailing on the bodice that makes for a flattering fit. This one could actually transition well into Fall due to the long sleeves. Sizes on this one are extremely limited, but its currently going for $27.99 when you use the code "YesYesYes" and that truly is an amazing price for this jaw dropping dress. Just click picture for the link!
You guys were also a fan of this fun and bold floral print dress. This is such an easy, comfortable dress with an off the shoulder neckline (my fave!) and a tie that cinches the waist. This would be perfect for dinners for that tropical vacation or brunch. Using the same code I mentioned above, you can grab this dress for $77.97. I decided to really go all out and pair it with these floral print wedges, but it would look just as cute with hot pink heels.
This gorgeous, lavender dress is literally what my dreams are made of! May of you don't know this, but purple is my absolute favorite color. Not only did the beautiful hue of this dress draw me in, but so did the intricate lace detailing. I love how the entire sleeve is completely made out of lace with a peplum effect at the elbow. It's off the shoulder, which I also love, and the waistline hits just below the breast giving my curves a little extra boost. This would be perfect for a wedding or classy, daytime event. Literally every size is available and going for $41.99.
Torrid is great for simple, yet cute and comfortable looks. I have never bought anything from Torrid that I didn't feel I could literally wear all day. They really prioritize comfort, and you can tell! It's also a great brand if you are into more dark floral prints or even Disney inspired looks. Torrid is definitely fun and not afraid to bring out the kid in you. I also have 2 pairs of fabulous fitting jeans from there, which we all know are priceless. The sizing can be a bit confusing at first as they go from size 00 - 6. 00 is a size 10, 0 is a size 12, and 1 is a size 14-16 or 1X. Basically, once you are above size 0, the number will correlate with the X size you usually wear. For example, I'm almost always a 1X, so for the most part, I wear a 1 in Torrid. Sometimes I can wear a 0 if an item is cut big, which is why I love being able to go in the store and actually try it on!
This show stopping neon peplum top is perfect for date night or a night out on the town with your girlfriends. The V-neck cut offers just the right amount of sex appeal without feeling like you are spilling out. The scuba material is very comfortable to wear, and the color is simply eye-catching. You all know I've been a huge fan of neon this summer. This top paired with black jeans can easily transition right into Fall. It also comes in hot pink and selling for $31.43. Sizes are limited, but a great deal if available.
You guys know I loved rocking this multicolor shirt dress in Brazil! It was so fun to rock all these colors at once, and this dress instantly boosted my mood. I mean, how can you be anything but happy looking like a rainbow lol. In true Torrid fashion, this dress was extremely comfortable to wear with two side splits, button down detailing, and a tie. I thought the collar was unique and felt free in this sleeveless dress. There is literally only one size left: 1X, so if you want this one, run and get it for $55.23.
Lane Bryant is where I go for more conservative pieces. My style has definitely changed since becoming a married woman, and I can always count on this brand to give me wife appropriate pieces. The jeans here are also fantastic and will fit your curves without gaping at the waist. Oh, and bras; numerous sizes and high quality! So far, I have not been disappointed with Lane Bryant's sizing. A size 14 here is truly a size 14, though sometimes my bust may not feel out a top completely. This is definitely a great brand for bigger busted women from clothes to lingerie to swimwear.
I am still head over heels in love with this multicolor maxi dress. I fell in love with the colors of course, but also the cute, flutter sleeves, and faux wrap style. This is easy to slip on for a date, brunch, or daytime affair (yes, I've worn it for all of these). Pretty much all sizes are available for $37.79. Pair with a hot pink lip to keep the Summer vibes going.
This soft pink lace dress from the Beauticurve collection with Lane Bryant is a dream! First of all, my curves look amazing in this sheath dress, and I love the all over lace detailing. I'm honestly surprised all sizes are available for this sale item at $37.79 because this was my favorite dress from the collection. I would wear this to a wedding, daytime date, and even church with a blazer on top.
Ashley Stewart is great for trendy, unique pieces that you may not find elsewhere. They have brick and mortar stores as well, though I haven't personally visited one. They also have a Curvy Girl collection that has more pieces appropriate for a night out on the town or for the younger plus size girl in your life. The clothes fit true to size for their regular clothes; however, you want to make sure you size up for the Curvy Girl collection. For example, instead of buying a 1X, which is actually a size 12 for Curvy Girl, I would buy the 2X, which is the size 14. For their regular collection, I am fine with my usual size 14.
Nothing screams chic more than a cape blazer! I know they say don't wear white after Labor Day, but really who says that? I believe any color can be rocked all year long if you want it to. This blazer gives a sophisticated look to anything you pair it with and has pockets. Unfortunately, I wear scrubs everyday, but this is definitely how I envision Boss Babe Katrina would dress. Many sizes are available for $41.65.
When you're a shopaholic like me, you can appreciate a good sale. Although I paid full price for most of these items, I wanted you guys to have a chance to snag them at a reduced price. If you loved this, let me know, and I can do a sale roundup of my looks every season. Now what are you waiting for? Buy the dress!
